Sushiland

Tasked with bringing to life a traditional-style Japanese Sushi Kiosk, we combined natural finishes and materials with a muted colour palette. Simple forms and straight lines draw inspiration from Japanese joinery and architecture. The design addressed several challenges, including how to hide a large commercial range hood in an aesthetically pleasing and structurally sound manner, and how to minimise views into the kitchen and washup areas without building higher walls. The range hood surround, inspired by Japanese Washi Paper and backlit for effect, became a central feature of the design. Different heights and materials create visual interest while maintaining just enough privacy.
